The play "How Potjeh searched for the truth"
The Zadar Dance Ensemble, the oldest contemporary dance ensemble in Dalmatia, has been organizing and performing dance performances for over 30 years.
The play ‘‘How the Journey Searched for Truth’’, co-produced with the Zadar Croatian National Theatre, is the Ensemble’s longest-running and most popular full-length dance performance, choreographed by Sanja Petrovski, directed and costumed by Marija Šarić Ban. It premiered in 2005 at the Zadar Theatre Summer, and has since been revived on several occasions with great success, most recently last year at the 30th Zadar Theatre Summer. The performance features around twenty dancers, with a cast of over forty.
This time, the Zadar Dance Ensemble, under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia and the City of Zadar, is organizing a short tour, and will be arriving at the DKC Kino u sv. Filip i Jakov on October 18th! Admission is free!
The story “How the Expedition Searched for Truth” by Ivana Brlić Mažuranić, inspired by tradition, is set in the Dalmatian hinterland with music and costumes. Archetypal motifs of the eternal struggle of good and evil, using images from ancient myths, tell the story of the fate of ordinary people. The music of Mojmir Novaković and the Legen group organically interweaves the fabric of this deeply moral story. The world of Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić is a world of rich imagination, fantastic characters in magical worlds, who in this dance picture book, through the medium of dance and theater, are dramaturgically structured through 12 images, linearly following the original story and trying to maintain its archaic style and emphasize the magic of the events on stage. Generations of dancers have gone through the distinctive roles of which there are a large number in the play, and the play has been performed throughout Croatia, as well as at the International Children's Festival in Šibenik and the Fairy Tale Festival in Ogulin. In addition to being a combination of tradition and a modern approach to the work of art, Potjeh is an attractive performance that encourages audience development, as well as the professionalization and decentralization of the dance scene in Croatia.
The program takes place as part of the Platform for Cinema project organized by the U Pokretu Association and the Zadar Dance Ensemble, and under the auspices of the Municipality of Sv. Filip i Jakov, the Zadar County and the Napredak Association.
